This client came to me in hopes to turn her Master Bedroom into a beautiful and calming sanctuary. She and her husband have lived 15 years in this…and hated every minute of it…

…I mean….really? One of my favorite quotes is “Questions about whether design is necessary or affordable are quite beside the point, design is inevitable. The alternative is good design or bad design, not no design at all.” I think this definitely applies to this client and her situation, don’t you agree?
I had to help her, she was young, with a young family and I really liked her…so let the planning begin… Red walls, first of all, who decided this was a good idea to trend…for so long…? It gives me serious anxiety! It was certainly doing nothing positive for her space so I began with a new color palette and I built the room from there, the layout,…Had. To. Change. They had their queen size bed in the corner, diagonally sandwiched into the space and matching wood furniture that she has had since she was in high school around the perimeter of the room, she needed a design intervention. Stat.
She wanted to incorporate a desk to pay bills, a dresser for storage, wanted to keep a ceiling fan and a king size bed, if you are getting a new bed, go big or go home right? And I had to ditch the mirrored closet doors, they totally dated the space! She splurged for custom bi-fold doors with a frosted glass insert, made the closet appear larger and more functional. I pulled together her digital design board options and ultimately, she and her husband decided on Board #2…so exciting!
Take a look at our finished product, hopefully you agree that their new Master Suite is a better use of color, spatial planning and a better representation of what a master suite is all about, a place of sanctuary.

Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to stay for “The Big Reveal” which is my favorite part, so she kindly, surprised me with this video she took of her “first look”
(PS-how adorable is her daughter Rachel in the background, love her)
